Hurricanes, A return to Butler, and Harris’s media outreach
Hello everyone and welcome back to another week of Politics Explained. If you are new here we write short weekly blogs about the happenings every week in politics. We also want to thank all of you for one whole year. Thank you to everyone who has supported us, and as we strive forward for bigger and better things. We have so many ideas to share with you guys, so make sure to follow along. With that being said, we have to get back to this week's blog. This week we will talk about Hurricane relief & FEMA, Trump returning to his attempted assassination site, and Kamala Harris on “Call Me Daddy.” Without further ado let’s dive right in.
On Wednesday, Hurricane Milton rampaged through Florida, wreaking havoc everywhere. Earlier this month, Hurricane Helene also hit Florida and went further north, causing destruction in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. These hurricanes have resulted in numerous discussions in politics due to the actions of the Federal Emergency Management Agency or FEMA*. FEMA has received $20 billion for use to help people and communities damaged by natural disasters. FEMA has said they have already used $9 billion because of how deadly these hurricanes have been. Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have talked about the hurricanes and specifically about the response from FEMA. As it is still hurricane season, we will see how all these and potential future hurricanes play out and how they will affect the 2024 election.
Earlier this month, former President Donald Trump revisited the site of his assassination attempt, standing behind a glass shield. The former President held a rally and during it, Trump remembered the fallen firefighter who was shot and killed during the assassination attempt. Trump also gave his praise to the Secret Service members who threw their bodies on top of him to protect him. Later in the rally, Elon Musk appeared and tried to hype up the crowd at his first rally with the former president.
Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on a talk show with Alex Cooper called “Call Me Daddy.” Cooper’s talk show is the second most viewed podcast on Spotify. Cooper stated that in an election where one of the candidates was a female, she could not not be a part of it. Harris throughout the podcast really pushed her stance on abortion and her opinions on it as a pro-choice candidate. Harris’s appearance was part of a new strategy by her campaign to reach out to niche-media (as opposed to the major networks) in order to appeal to various interest groups. With the election less than 4 weeks away, please make sure to stay tuned to our blog to stay up to date on everything election-related.
