RFK’s Endorsement and Harris’s first Interview

Hello everyone and welcome back to another week of Politics Explained. We hope you all are having a great summer as summer is starting to wrap up and hope everyone has a good Labor day weekend. This week we have lots of news to cover in politics including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorsing Donald J. Trump for President and Kamala Harris’s first interview on CNN. With that being said let's get into it.

Earlier this week Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. decided to endorse Donald Trump. While he endorsed Trump he made it very clear that he will not be dropping out of the Presidential races and keeping his name on the ballot. This endorsement is more for the fact to give his support to the former President. Earlier in his campaign he said if there is a world where I can not see myself becoming President then I would quit my campaign and in his eyes, that day has arrived. The endorsement of Trump happened at a rally in Arizona this past weekend. Trump introduced RFK at the rally and then RFK came on stage with fireworks and then endorsed Trump. Kennedy who has been a Democrat for most of his life has endorsed the former President who is a Republican. Many family members of RFK have felt that this decision has been a betrayal of his father and their family. Along with the endorsement, Trump has stated that he has appointed RFK and Tulsi Gabbard (a former Democrat who has shown her support for Donald Trump) to the transition team. If Trump wins in November the two will help him choose policy and personnel for the office.

Also this week on the other side of the Ballot, Vice President Kamala Harris had her first major interview with CNN ahead of her September 10th debate with Mr. Trump. This was her first major interview since Joe Biden dropped out. She did the interview alongside her running mate Tim Walz of Minnesota. One of the main thing that Mrs. Harris tried to address was the Republican voters who do not believe in Donald Trump. On Thursday of this week, she was asked point-blank* if she would appoint a Republican to her cabinet and she said, “It would be to the benefit of the American public to have a member of my cabinet who was a Republican.” Also earlier this month former President Trump said that Kamala “happened to turn black” and in the interview, the interviewer addressed the statement the former President said. Harris said, “Same old, tired playbook,” and then asked for the next question.

There will be more to come for the election so stay tuned on all of our social media to stay up to date!
